This is the first year that the Clare Volunteer Centre has been involved in the Give it a Swirl – the National Day of Volunteering campaign and we are encouraging organisations to create once-off volunteering opportunities that benefit them and the community – and which show that volunteering, even for a few short hours, can make a difference and be a lot of fun. The closing date for registration of a project is 1st September 2009 and we’d be happy to help your group talk through a proposal, should you have an idea in mind. We will then actively seek volunteers to carry out your project.

If you are a volunteer who is interested in participating in Give it a Swirl, your contribution can be tailored to suit your needs.  You can commit as little as an hour or two by joining one of our registered projects.  You will also be Giving it a Swirl by joining the Hope Foundation Fast, the Irish Youth Foundation sponsored Denim Day or donating blood at one of the Irish Blood Transfusion Clinics or if you are feeling a little more adventurous, you can initiate your own project.  This can take as little time as reading to residents of a nursing home for an hour or as ambitious as organizing the clean up of your local area.  For examples of previous projects, check out www.giveitaswirl.ie .
