Welcome to our monthly newsletter, with a snapshot of the latest volunteering opportunities available.

Breakfast Club Volunteer
Scoil Chríost Rí Breakfast Club

Scoil Chríost Rí is looking for volunteers to assist with their daily breakfast club which is based in the Junction Community building in Cloughleigh. Supporting 20 children, the club operates between 8.15am – 9.15am during term time. Volunteers will work in pairs and will be asked to set up breakfast (cereal, glass of milk, toast), serve the breakfast and assist with clean up. A teacher will arrive at 8.55am to walk the children to school.

Charity Shop Volunteer
Cahercalla Charity Shop

Cahercalla Charity Shop based in Ennis raises much needed funds to support the work of Cahercalla hospice to provide 24 hour nursing care providing comfort, dignity and a better quality of life for terminally ill patients and emotional and practical support for their families. It is open Monday to Saturday from 9.30am – 5.30pm and they are looking for volunteers for 2 hourly slots on a day / time that suits the volunteer.

 

We are looking for volunteers who are enthusiastic, have a high standard of customer service, honest and reliable and can adhere to strict confidentiality and health & safety policies.

Committee Member
Shannon Credit Union

Each credit union has a team of volunteers who work together to lead and manage their local credit union as part of a committee.

Shannon Credit Union is looking for volunteers with a range of skills including but not limited to finance, marketing, HR or marketing. The committee meets on a Tuesday evening and provides a great opportunity to gain experience of working in and supporting a local credit union. Homework Support
Clarecare

Clarecare provides a range of professional, county wide services through individual support and group programmes. Among the services provided are homework clubs.

Volunteers are currently required for the homework club based in Ennis. The homework club run according to school terms and the ideal volunteer would have an interest in working with children to support them in understanding and completing their homework either at primary or secondary school level.

The homework club runs on a Monday & Tuesday from 4pm – 6pm and Wednesday from 3.30pm to 5.30pm.

Volunteers must be over 18. Garda Vetting is a requirement for this role and will be carried out by Clarecare. There is a specific requirement for 2017 for volunteers with experience in German or Irish language.

Youth Leader
Clare Youth Service Ennis

The Clare Youth Service are looking for volunteer youth leaders to get involved with a group at Carmody Street in Ennis. Various activities are carried including indoor soccer, baking, social media, etc. The club provides teenagers within the 12-18 year old age bracket to meet together each week and engage in activities of interest to them.

 

There is also a monthly activity planning meeting for one hour which the volunteer will be asked to attend. Administration forms part of this role and training will be provided in Child Protection and Training Development.

 

The role is for 3 hours per week from 7.30pm to 10pm and would suit a person with good communication skills both written and oral and an interest in working with youth.

Coder Dojo Mentor
Coder Dojo

Coder Dojo is an open source, volunteer led movement of free computer programming clubs for young people aged between 7 and 17 years of age on how to code, develop websites, apps, games and more. Dojos are set up, run by and led by volunteer members of the community. Teams are comprised of a Champion, Mentors and non-technical volunteers.

 

Currently there are 60 young people attending each week who work together in teams to code games and animations in Scratch. We are looking for volunteers between 10am and 12noon on a Saturday. For technical mentors a minimum of 2 years of programming experience is needed either as a professional or as a student. The volunteers are placed on a rota of 1 – 2 Saturdays per month. Art & Craft Instructor
Carrigoran House

Carrigoran House is an elderly care facility specializing in Alzheimer’s and dementia. The Health & Wellness centre are currently looking for a volunteer willing to put together an art project for a group of up to 10 people.

The project can range from water-colours to mosaic and all materials will be supplied. This is a role for someone who is artistic, a good communicator and has patience and empathy for older adults. The opportunity will take place on a Thursday morning from 11.30am – 1pm for a period of 6-8 weeks.

Ennis General Hospital
PAL Volunteer

Patient Advocacy Liaison Volunteers are being sought for Ennis General Hospital.

Coming to the hospital can be an emotional and vulnerable time for people. Our volunteers will work in pairs and will:

•Be an ambassador for Ennis Hospital.
•Welcome visitors to Ennis Hospital.
•Offer assistance
•Assist with way finding to various wards, clinics, departments.
•Walk with hospital visitors to their location if necessary.
•Request wheelchairs on behalf of patients.
•Help gather patient feedback on their experience in hospital.
•Provide companionship to patients.
•Engage in activities such as bingo and card -playing with patients, contact Dolores at The Clare Volunteer Centre on 065 68 66 800
