Clare Community Response

  • ‘Clare Community and Voluntary Covid-19 Response’ is a temporary alliance of three organisations in Clare; Clare PPN, Clare Local Development Company and Clare Volunteer Centre. We have partnered with BHP Insurance to provide insurance cover for organisations or groups who are providing volunteer led responses to Covid-19 in County Clare. If you are part of a group of people which is currently working on the ground in Clare to provide help and assistance to elderly, vulnerable, or isolated people in your area you can register with Clare Community and Voluntary Covid-19 Response and avail of this insurance cover so long as you agree to abide by the conditions explained below.

    By registering with ‘Clare Community and Voluntary Covid-19 Response’ below you are agreeing to be contacted by Clare PPN, CLDC and Clare Volunteer Centre.

    We will only use your information for the purposes of coordination and supporting the community and voluntary response to Covid-19 in County Clare and will only share any contact details you provide with other organisations involved in this effort in Clare or with people who contact us looking for support or assistance.

  • Volunteering activities must fall into the following categories:

    1. Delivery of groceries / prescriptions / fuel

    2. Phone support/check ins/assistance with form filling

    3. Goods must pre-paid and no exchange of money between the vulnerable person and volunteers should take place.

    4. HSE Guidelines to be met on distancing and handling.

    5. No handling of animals or pets is covered under this policy.

    6. No group or organisation which is part of Clare Community and Voluntary Covid-19 Response may specify which company or outlet is used to supply goods or services to any person availing of voluntary support.

    7. No group or organisation which is part of Clare Community and Voluntary Covid-19 Response may charge or accept payment for their voluntary service.

  • Clare Volunteer Centre has offered the following safeguarding guidelines and we require all groups who are registering with Clare Community and Voluntary Covid-19 Response to operate within these guidelines:

    Safeguarding your volunteers

    Safeguarding:

    A. Every volunteer is instructed to follow HSE guidelines www.hse.ie/coronavirus.

    B. Wash hands frequently for at least 20 seconds with soap and water before and after volunteering.

    C. Use hand sanitizer where handwashing facilities are not available.

    D. Cough or sneeze into a tissue or your elbow.

    E. Maintain physical distancing of 2 metres.

    F. Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth.

    G. Volunteers should wear PPE (gloves and face mask). Gloves must only be worn once.

    H. Anyone displaying any of the symptoms of coronavirus (a cough, shortness of breath, breathing difficulties, fever, high temperature of 38 degrees Celsius or above or chills) or otherwise feeling unwell should not volunteer.

    I. Volunteers must adhere to social distancing guidelines, avoid physical contact and limit interactions with people.

    J. Volunteers should not enter into the home of any person. If a volunteer is concerned about the welfare of any person, they should contact the relevant emergency service/ HSE contact.

    K. Volunteers should not handle cash. All orders to be managed directly with the service provider (shop/pharmacy) and homeowner. Only orders which have been pre-paid will be delivered.

    L. Communicate to your volunteers that the criteria for being a volunteer may change in the future and that they may be excluded from volunteering for their own safety, i.e. if the definition of ‘risk groups’ is changed by the HSE. Currently volunteers must be between 18 and 60 years of age.

    M. Ensure that all volunteers are provided with ID, with the contact details of your group’s main contact person and that they are aware of what procedures to follow to alert their community group if they are unable to volunteer for the requested task.
