CLARE COMMUNITY CALENDER A GREAT SUCCESS

The Clare Volunteer Centre have launched an online calendar with the help of a dedicated team of volunteers. The calendar lists details of events, training, workshops and zoom classes which are available online for people within County Clare. Sharon Meaney, Manager of the Clare Volunteer Centre explained where the idea for the calendar came from, “The pandemic has brought many challenges but also opportunities for organisations to reach a wider platform through delivery of services on online platforms such as Zoom, Microsoft Teams and Google Meet. The request for a central location of a local calendar of events came directly from the community during lockdown when people found their opportunity to get involved in local events was limited.”

The calendar can be accessed on the www.volunteerclare.ie website and is kept up to date by a team of dynamic and committed volunteers. Heather McFarlane, who has recently moved to Ireland saw the volunteer role as an opportunity to find out what was going on in the community as well as utilise her skills and experience.  Heather has not only been volunteering with the Clare Community Calendar but also as part of the Mass Vaccination Team volunteers who are based in Treacys West County Hotel.

Dolores O Halloran, Placement Officer shared how organisations and groups can add their events to the calendar, “organisations can email info@volunteerclare.ie with the details of the event, if we need any further information, Heather or one of the CVC team will follow up. The calendar is updated in real time, so it’s a great opportunity for our local communities to share the amazing range of events, workshops, festivals that are happening locally. We have had a great response from the general public who were looking for activities to do online and find out what was happening in their community”.

Chairperson of the Clare Volunteer Centre, Michael Foley expressed how he hoped the calendar would be relevant to the local community
